Branka Benčić is art historian and curator with a central interest in contemporary art, film and video, experimental and conceptual art practices, research projects, exhibition history and curatorial practices. She curates, writes, collaborates with museums, galleries, festivals and art institutions in Croatia and abroad. She is the managing director of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka and was the curator of the Croatian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (2017) and co-curator at the Architecture Biennale in Venice (2018). She is the co-curator of the central theme programme Solidarity as Disruption at the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival (2021), the author of the Croatian artist film retrospective at the festival Interseccion, A Coruna (2020), and a co-curator of the 3rd Biennale of Industrial Art Ravno u Sunce (2020, Labin, Raša, Pula). As the founder and curator she launched and implemented many projects, such as Apoteka - Space for Contemporary Art in Vodnjan with Matija Debeljuh, Cinemaniac: Think Film at Pula Film Festival, or Artists’ Cinema at MSU Zagreb. As an independent curator she organised over 60 group and over 100 solo exhibitions, film and video screenings, and took part in many presentations, talk and lectures in Croatia and abroad.
