Ways in which film deceives us

08.08.2016 21:23

Did you know that film appears due to a fault on the eye? What is thaumathropa or flipbook? Would you like to make them with us? You can, if you are between 7 and 10 years old and apply (until 23 August) to Restart’s workshop “Ways in which film deceives us”.

During three days, we will investigate time, movement, magic, tricks of movies, reversed image, prolongation and learn why the image is upside-down. Analyzing different examples in the history of cinematography, we will try to demystify the idea of movement in film. Movement that appears happens because of a fault on the eye that reads a series of static images as movement. In order to show this to attendants of the workshop, several optical toys will be made such as thaumatrop, camera obscura and flipbook.

Workshop is aimed at children from 7 to 10 years of age. It is free and will be held in Villa Antonio (Nazorova Street 2, Opatija) from 23 to 25 August, from 19:00 to 20:00. Workshop leaders are Vanda Kreutz and Ana Hušman, and applications are open until 23 August ([email protected]).

„Ways in which film deceives us“ workshop is carried out as a part of Restart project Film beginner, aimed at pre-school and elementary school children. By participating in the project, children gain basic knowledge about film and media creation.
