Question: Name three Croatian bands with film scores and soundtrack discography that equals that of their popular music? We cannot guarantee for the next two, but the first band and the first answer will definitely be – Svadbas. It was only logical to host them on LFF, so we will, on Saturday 31th of August, from 23.30.

Svadbas (founded in 1994) gained popularity with soundtracks for Dalibor Matanić’s films “Fine mrtve djevojke” (Fine Dead Girls), album which received the Croatian national music award “Porin” for Best Soundtrack, and “Blagajnica hoće ići na more” (Cashier Wants to Go to the Seaside) containing their cover of the evergreen song “Moja draga” (My Dear) recorded with its original performer Drago Diklić, but also for Matanić’s other films – “Suša” (Drought) and “100 minuta slave” (100 Minutes of Glory). They also composed for films “Sami” (Alone) and “Krađa” (Theft) by Lukas Nola, “Puška za uspavljivanje” (Tranquilizer Gun) by Hrvoje Hribar and a short film by Snježana Tribuson called “Pod vedrim nebom” (Under Clear Skies) – and not a single note went unnoticed.
Their film non-related music career begins with a self-titled album “Svadbas” (Dallas Records, 1998), a single called “Ne znam” (I don’t know) from which was included on the compilation album “Freshmaker 3” by a US record label Zark Records. Album “Jug” (South) followed in 2000 (DanMrak label) and “la la” in 2005 (DOP Records and Menart). The album was promoted with an extremely successful single “Treblebass” which hit all the major charts on top positions. The same album gave us hits such as “Pričaj mi o ljubavi” (Tell me about love), dangerously close to repeating the success of “Treblebass”, and the third single “Više nije važno tko je kriv” (It no longer matters whose fault it was).
Finally, in 2012, after a seven-year long break “Svadbas” released their latest album “Još” (More) featuring the singer Ljubica Gurdulić, and musician and critic Ante Perković joining, as authors, the composing – producing duo of Jura Ferina and Pavle Miholjević. “Svadbas” work on music for the theatre (“Kultura u predgrađu”/Culture in the Suburbs, “Ospice”/Measles, “Bakino srce”/Grandma’s Heart). Apart from their own, they successfully produce other albums, such as “Drveće i rijeke” (Trees and Rivers) by Pips, Chips & Videoclips (production of which received the “Zlatna Koogla” award in 2004.), albums of the band “Djeca” and the debut album of the electro-pop duo “Lollobrigida” – “Cartoon Explosion”.
