The Rough Cut workshop continues this year as well

27.07.2022 13:14

In collaboration with renowned film editors Jelena Maksimović (Belgrade, Serbia) and Hrvoslava Brkušić (Zagreb, Croatia), the Liburnia Film Festival invites documentary directors and editors to apply for its Rough Cut workshop.

The workshop is open to all documentary filmmakers from the region (Croatia, Slovenia, BiH, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo), regardless of their film's expected duration.

The workshop will take place in two sessions, the first during the Liburnia Film Festival in Opatija, from August 24 to 28, 2022, and the second during the winter months in Rijeka.

For short films the entry fee will be 1,000 kuna, and for feature films it will be 1,500 kuna.

Workshop description:

This workshop is intended for documentary projects in the rough cut stages of editing. It will help filmmakers and editors learn about different solutions and concepts, gain new perspectives, be inspired, and receive professional feedback. Training consists of both group and individual work with workshop leaders. The workshop is open to both professionals and amateurs.

From the submitted film projects, the organizer will select up to five. Each must have a director and editor present at the workshop, in both sessions. Depending on the project's current status, the second phase may involve a producer.

In five days of intensive workshops at the Liburnia Film Festival, participants will examine rough cuts and discuss them under expert guidance. During the festival, the participants will also attend the case study, moderated discussions with the authors of the films in the festival program, as well as the Liburnia Film Festival's film program, all of which provide inspiration for discussions about possible editing and directorial solutions.

Both workshop leaders, Hrvoslava Brkušić and Jelena Maksimović, will provide intensive support to participants during the first workshop session in Opatija and the second one in Rijeka.

At the end of the first session, participants will continue to work independently on films with online consultations if necessary. During the second session in Rijeka, they will present new materials, discuss them as a group, and consult with the leaders individually.
