Following the film Via Dolorosa by the Palestinian author Oraib Toukan, featuring footage of the late photographer - cinematographer Hani Jawharieh, a talk will be held on the texts of militant cinema that question the role and position of camera and image in revolutionary movements. Marta Baradić, Jakob Krese, and Karla Crnčević will speak about the way images are created, what motivates them, how they are distributed and preserved. After that, Margaux Chalançon will perform a reading* that explores the complexities of restoring “The Freedom Giver”, a 1989 film by Kais Al Zubaidi, produced by the Lebanese National Front of Resistance, documenting the establishment of the resistance in Lebanon against the Israeli invasion after the 1982 Beirut siege.
*The lecture performance by Margaux Chalançon is organized in collaboration with the Unseen Film Festival.
