The 2023 documentary-fiction success by Ivan Ramljak, “El Shatt - A Blueprint for Utopia”, broke viewership records. The film tells the story of 28 000 Dalmatian refugees and their Egyptian shelter, El Shatt, where they fled fascist occupation, and which, through the efforts of the refugees, became a sort of ideal communist society.
The editor, Jelena Maksimović, will talk about the challenging process of editing archival footage, personal testimonies, and other building blocks of this film. Maksimović has, in the last 10 years, edited more than 60 fiction and documentary films, among them the prestigious award-winning achievements such as: “The Load” (2018), “You Have the Night” (2018), “Celts” (2021), “Landscapes of Resistance” (2021), “Snajka: Diary of Expectations” (2023), “Lost Country” (2023), and “Silence of Reason” (2023).
