What does it really mean for a film to be accessible to everyone? Are inclusive films merely a trend, or a standard the entire audiovisual community should strive for? This workshop explores these questions through an overview of the development of inclusive practices, an introduction to different methods of making films accessible, and examples of best practices from the film and festival sectors. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of Croatian Sign Language, try their hand at creating audio description, and gain practical knowledge to make their own film projects more accessible to wider audiences.

The story of Peacemaker began in the summer of 2019, when investigative journalists Drago Hedl and Hrvoje Zovko set out to investigate the circumstances surrounding the murder of Josip Reihl-Kir. Both had been researching the case for years, interviewing witnesses, checking testimonies, and collecting documents and archival material. Their goal was not only to understand why Reihl-Kir was killed, but also to reconstruct the circumstances surrounding his murder and the atmosphere in eastern Slavonia before the war. In this case study, Hedl and Zovko discuss their research, the sources and materials they found, and their collaboration with the film’s director and producer.

“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed” is the foundational philosophy of UNESCO. But how can this noble idea be put into practice in today’s circumstances, when both individuals and society as a whole are exposed to daily pressures of militarization—often subtle, persistent, and generously funded? How can we uphold the values of peace when militarism is increasingly permeating the media, education, science, politics, economy, and many other spheres of society?

These questions will be explored by panelists from Croatia and neighboring countries, who will discuss the causes, dynamics, and consequences of the militarization of society, as well as contemporary approaches to resisting it.

DJ Ana, better known as Joško, is a collector of Yugoslav vinyl records and a DJ. After living in Berlin, she moved to Ljubljana, where she regularly performs in bars and clubs, bringing Yugo groove, rare and forgotten gems from the region, and a broader appreciation of vinyl culture.

Joining her behind the turntables will be Nikša Dragolin, a dedicated vinyl enthusiast who has been involved in music for nearly three decades. From playing drums and percussion to immersing himself deeply in the world of vinyl and DJ culture, he uses his sets to blend sounds of the past with contemporary sounds and production. His musical selection ranges from ex-Yu music, jazz and rare groove to electronic and club music, and at LFF he will present a specially curated selection of ex-Yu sounds.

The evening’s visual experience will be created by Oblik 3, a visual artist working at the intersection of technology, art and space. His work brings facades, sets and public spaces to life through projection mapping, with visuals created and adapted live in response to the music, space and atmosphere of the event. His work makes use of tools such as Resolume Arena and TouchDesigner.
