ABOUT THE MOVIE
“We are the 120 worst women in Croatia, and it’s easiest to portray us as the scum of society. But don’t forget, we are also mothers.” The documentary film Anxiety seeks to depict a mother-child relationship that does not rest on the usual foundations—living together, physical closeness, and parental love. The protagonists are inmates of the Požega penitentiary; physically and emotionally separated from their children, they try to maintain a semblance of family life through phone calls or rare visits from their kids. The film follows a group of brave inmate mothers over the course of several months, centering on their therapy sessions and daily prison life. Anxiety conveys deeply emotional relationships, aiming to provide an intimate portrayal of an unconventional dimension of parental love.
