ABOUT THE MOVIE
Plenumovie points out the problems of commercialisation of higher education system in particular and educational policy in general by reflecting on the university sit-in that took place in 2009 in Rijeka, Croatia. Intertwining archival footage and present-day contemplations of protagonists, this film follows members of the sit-in through their reminiscences, thus painting a clearer picture of the 2009 events and creating a dialogue across time.Aided by protagonists’ musings on free education, solidarity, student activism, individual’s role in society and possibility of change of the mainstream paradigm of money as the only measure of success, Plenumovie questions the romantic idea of student-activist and ponders whether there is real basis for an active socio-political engagement of students today.Plenumovie is a recapitulation and reminiscence of “the glory days”, but also a reflection and a call to a wider discussion about the future of higher education.
Marta Batinić
Marta Batinić (Rijeka, 1980) graduated in Philosophy and History at the University of Rijeka. Active member of Filmaktiv since 2007 as camera operator, editor and director of short documentaries (“Rock’n’Wool”, “Spatial Justice”). Head of educational department of Filmaktiv, author of a series of stop-motion animation (her favorite fetish), book trailers and a music video. After working as the head of editing division at a local TV station for two years she decided to spend all her working hours at Filmaktiv. Marta took part in a number of projects as editor, including experimental “Preuzmimo Benčić” by Canadian director Althea Thauberger (Musagetes, 2014). Longtime member of Ashes You Leave metal band, with which she has recorded six studio albums.
Sanja Kapidžić
Sanja Kapidžić (Rijeka, 1978) graduated in Applied Arts at the University of Rijeka. Active in Filmaktiv since 2008 as author of a number of short movies and documentarist of dance and theatre performances. Author of a dozen book trailers, mainly for Katapult editions. Workshop leader in various educational programs. She has collaborated with Marin Lukanović as camera operator and photographer in the making of documentary film “Theatre, Our Way” and video design of the ballet performance “The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie” at the National Theatre in Rijeka. Camera operator on the experimental “Preuzmimo Benčić” by Canadian director Althea Thauberger (Musagetes, 2014). Coauthor (with Marta Batinić) of documentary film “Spatial Justice” (Filmaktiv, 2014).
Ana Jurčić
Ana Jurčić (Rijeka, 1987) has been screaming her lungs out with One Piece Puzzle since 2006. For Ukus production company she has recorded sound of movies “Kamo?” (2010), “Maria’s Own” (2010), “Winter/Miracle” (2013) “End of Light” and “Endless Tail” (in production). From 2008 until 2013 translates and subtitles movies at Art-kino in Rijeka. Assistant editor, sound engineer and boom operator on experimental “Preuzmimo Benčić” by Canadian director Althea Thauberger (Musagetes, 2014). Workshop leader on a number of Filmaktiv’s educational projects in video-activism, documentary filmmaking and audiovisual journalism. Former musical editor and sound engineer on Sova radio station, author of video for theatre productions “Crossings” (2012), “Les Lieux de Memoire” (2012) and “Hooker” (2014), screenwriter and editor of documentary film “The Settlers” (Filmaktiv, 2013) and numerous experimental, music and non-commercial videos and book trailers.
